Your Sketchbook is Your Muse!

For as long as I can remember I have kept diaries, sketchbooks and journals... and what I know is that most of my ideas come when I am activity engaged with brainstorming thru writing, sketching, and the collection of pictures and objects thru a hands-on approach. The benefits extend beyond the art studio as the sketchbook is a place to explore any area or topic in my life. It is a place I use to brainstorm about art projects, lessons in the classroom, recipes and engage in personal reflection. I will share tips and strategies as well as prompts to get you started! But, first, if you do not have one, get out and buy a sketchbook to get started!! Decorate your cover to personalize your book or begin by practicing flow of consciousness writing! How do you get started doing this? Set a timer for 3 mins and upon waking up in the morning before you look at your phone or do anything else, literally write whatever comes to mind. For example even if your thinking "I don't know what to write" that is what you should put on the page! You will see that your thoughts will switch and be random and that is ok! In fact, it is the point. Follow the path of great Surrealist in this game of letting the mind go and just write!
