This project is inspired by Wayne Thiebaud, the American painter known for his colorful paintings of commonplace objects like pies, cakes and donuts. Not only did these 5th and 6th graders use real donuts for inspiration, but the real treat came after when they got to eat them! Working with oil pastels and focusing on color, composition, texture and taste, students learned techniques of layering and blending. To begin, thumbnail drawings were made exploring placement of the donuts as well as techniques to create perspective such as overlapping. Their luscious drawings are good enough to eat!!
